Thematic Intervention among Female Sex Workers (FSWs) Project

The project works with female sex workers, their spouses and their clients. The project identifies women engaged in sex work and works to raise their standard of living by promoting behavior change; to provide treatment for STI and to explain the measures for preventing the spread.

The project activities include identification of female sex workers and imparting awareness of Sexually Transmitted Infection/Diseases among them, organising HIV/AIDS awareness camps, initiating discussions on how to prevent the disease through safer sex habits and condom use, and referring persons having high risk behaviour for clinical diagnosis. Further, the women are explained about their rights to insist condom usage with their partners and clients. Apart from the primary target – the sex workers, their clients and spouses are met and the necessity of safer sex practices is explained to them. The identified women are organised and formed into Self Help Groups which then function with the assistance of the project staff.

2 TAI Clinics & Drop-in-centres have been setup in K.Pudur and Melur to provide medical and other services to the target women.
