There is no second opinion that HIV/AIDS is the most catastrophic epidemic the society has ever seen which attacks the body’s immune system, destroying cells that fight against infections which at final stage causing damages and vulnerable to opportunistic infections. The Myths and Misconceptions concerning HIV/AIDS despite enough education to public especially with regard to those infected and affected with the said crucial virus accompanied by societal stigma result indiscrimination of these deprived groups to the denial of access to health care, education, training, Employment, Insurance& public facilities leading to fundamental civil rights violations.

PACHE TRUST, basically a health development grassroots level organization mainly concentrating on prevention control of HIV/AIDS among Female Sex Workers,Transgenders,Truckers etc. cannot remain as a mere spectator when those HIV/AIDS infected persons especially women &children are subjected to abuse, neglect, Isolation,Tease, exploitation and are struggling to meet out life challenges towards leading a true &dignified human life. DIRE CONSEQUENCES OF COVID -19: HIV AND COVID-19 INFECTIONS:

Even though the COVID-19 health phenomenon has badly affected worldwide causing significant increased rates of morbidity&mortality, ICU admissions people already with HIV positive status have to be more careful.Hence through individual contacts, family visits these children & their families were educated with symptoms, proper &adequate health care measures, side effects, vaccination follow up services etc.,

Children even though schools were closed, they were attending online classes. Lack of mobile phones, connectivity problems tec., posed a new threat for their trying to adopt to this new method of learning.

Early child marriages, Children going for available menial jobs were found to be quite common due to family economic conditions &parents were very much tense &anxiety, fearing of death they wanted to get their girl children married. In fact, it was kind of forced marriage. PACHE TRUST took efforts to counsel &guide them. Under one pretext or the other especially citing social cultural norms, food insecuritychildren were subjected to violation of child protection &human rights.

Now we slowly educate the parents to realize how it affects the children’s learning opportunities in life.

Funded By   : UN ENFANTS DU MONDE, Belgium.
Primary Target : Children Affected by HIV/AIDS; Female children who have been protected from female infanticide; Female children of working women.
Area of work : Chellampatti, Vadipatti, Kottampatti and Melur Blocks of Madurai District.

This project focuses the children in the rural areas and is being implemented since 2001 with the aim of “helping female children in their education and the other basic requirements”. The Children Sponsorship Programme has been further divided into four sub-programmes of which three programmes are being currently implemented.

The first programme of the Children Sponsorship Programme covers the children affected by AIDS in the Melur and Kottampatti blocks of Madurai District. These areas are also parallelly covered through our other projects including thematic intervention and HIV/ AIDS care and support.

The second programme covers Girl Children to Prevent Female Infanticide in Chellampatti and Vadipatti blocks of Madurai District. The identification process for this programme has been of long term. A team of project staff has been involved in identifying families where there is high risk of female infanticide. These families are then convinced to bring up the girl child with the support of our sponsorship programme. This programme includes counselling mothers and providing support to meet food, education and other requirements of children.

The third programme covers the girl children of working women through Creche run by PACHE Trust in Vikkiramangalam of Chellampatti Block and Vadipatti block. The programme supports children of mothers who work in agricultural farms and find it difficult to bring up their children. These children are given motherly care with utmost attention and are provided with milk and other nutritional supplements.

The process of identifying Orphan and Vulnerable Children is in progress in Chellampatti, Melur, Kottampatti and Vadipatti blocks. The focus would be to provide guidance and ensure safe living conditions for the children, to provide support to extended families thereby ensuring care and support to the orphan and vulnerable children. To provide nutrition, education and vocational training support to children in addition to the regular psychosocial support.
